Today's synthetic turf blends have come a long way — natural-toned fibres, layered colour, and infill technology now create a surface with drainage and appearance that's hard to tell apart from a healthy lawn at a glance. Groundwork Lawncare handles artificial turf installation for homes and businesses throughout Ashland, KY, from planning through final walkthrough.
What Goes Into a Groundwork Lawncare Turf Installation in Ashland, KY
A turf system is only as good as what lies beneath it. Skimping on groundwork is the number-one cause of soggy patches, sagging seams, and lifted edges down the road. Our crews strip out existing sod and soil to the correct depth, lay and compact a road-base aggregate layer for drainage, then finish with decomposed granite to create a firm, even bed the turf backing can sit flush against.
Choosing the right turf comes down to how the space will be used, how it should look, and what the budget allows. For front and back yards, we typically recommend longer-pile, multi-tone blends that read as natural grass from the curb. Areas that see heavier wear — dog runs, play zones, event or commercial spaces — call for tougher fibre and stronger drainage capacity. Athletic surfaces bring their own set of requirements around ball response, cushioning, and fibre recovery under constant use.
Getting the infill right matters just as much as the turf itself. For most homes and businesses we use silica sand, valued for how well it holds up, drains, and is readily sourced. Crumb rubber is added where extra cushioning is needed, such as play areas and sports surfaces. If synthetic infill is a concern, cork-based or coated-sand alternatives are also an option. Whatever the choice, we apply it to the exact depth the manufacturer specifies for that product and its intended use.
